Comparative brain analysis of wild and hatchery reared Mahseer (Tor putitora) relative to their body weight and length

Abstract The present study was aimed at comparing the brain size of mahseer (Tor putitora) in relation to their body weight and standard length, investigate potential impact rearing environment on development fish. three its subdivisions cerebellum (CB), optic tectum (OT), telencephalon (TC) were measured for both wild hatchery-reared data analysed using multiple analysis covariance (MANCOVA), (ANCOVA), discriminate function (DFA). We found fish reared under hatchery conditions exhibit smaller related weight, when compared ones. A significant (p<0.5) difference observed length CB OT concerning while no TC from origins. results current highlight a logical assumption that neural deficiency affects behaviour fish, that’s why captive-reared show maladaptive response face fitness decline released natural stock enhancement. concluded variations gross morphology as counterpart.
